MY LIFE AND MY JOURNEY
I am Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Redlands in Southern California.
I became interested in death in the 1990s - post-mortem photography, cemetery and gravestone design, spiritualism, consolation literature, the funeral industry, grief counseling, and, finally, the subject of internet afterlife.
My research led me deep into both the worldwide web and cyberspace, as well as into the heart of Western philosophy. My book takes the reader on the same mind-altering journey. Along the way you will meet Plato Descartes, John Locke and Alan Turing. But you will also meet some extraordinary 21st century figures -- Ray Kurzweil, Dr. Martine Rothblatt, Dmitry Itskov and Max More, who will promise you something Plato and Descartes never would, or could: the chance to live forever as a pattern of binary code in a virtual server.
I live, today, in the heart of Los Angeles with my beloved wife Dorothy and our two rescue dogs, wondering whether we will all live forever in the cloud.
